Childhood Obesity in the Caribbean: Prevention and Management in Primary Care
This session seeks to equip primary care providers with practical strategies for early identification, prevention, and treatment of childhood obesity within the Caribbean context. It will address the rising prevalence of paediatric obesity, its long-term health implications, and evidence-based approaches to lifestyle modification, nutrition, physical activity, and family engagement.
Mental Health in Paediatrics: Recognizing and Managing Emotional and Behavioural Disorders
The objective of this segment is to raise awareness of the increasing mental health challenges among children and adolescents. Participants will be guided on how to screen for common disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and conduct disorders in the primary care setting. The session emphasizes early intervention, referral pathways, and multidisciplinary approaches to care.
Overall, the event aims to foster integrated, patient-centred care that supports the physical and emotional wellbeing of children, thereby strengthening the role of primary care providers in tackling these growing public health concerns.
