AGPJ NATIONAL & REGIONAL RECOGNITION INITIATIVE


Celebrating Excellence in Jamaican General Practice

The Association of General Practitioners of Jamaica (AGPJ) invites all General Practitioners to submit or update their professional curriculum vitae (CV), biography, and professional achievements annually.

This initiative supports the work of the AGPJ Nominating & Recognition Committee by ensuring that outstanding General Practitioners are appropriately considered for:

  1. National Awards
  2. Regional Awards
  3. Professional Recognition by the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ)
  4. International Recognition
  5. Special Presidential Citations
  6. Community & Humanitarian Awards

Why This Matters

General Practitioners are the backbone of Jamaica’s healthcare system.

Too often, exemplary service in primary care goes unrecognized simply because documentation is not readily available at the time of nomination.

This initiative ensures that:

  1. Achievements are documented in real time
  2. Service contributions are preserved
  3. Leadership roles are recognized
  4. Community outreach efforts are captured
  5. Innovation in practice is highlighted
  6. AGPJ is prepared when nomination deadlines arise

This is part of the AGPJ’s strategic push to elevate the profile, prestige, and national visibility of General Practice in Jamaica.


Recognition Frameworks Considered

The Diamond Award Doctor Framework (Primary Care Excellence)

AGPJ evaluates nominees in alignment with globally recognized primary care competencies:

  1. Care Provider – Clinical excellence, patient-centred care
  2. Decision-Maker – Evidence-based and ethical medical judgement
  3. Communicator – Effective patient, family & interprofessional engagement
  4. Community Leader – Outreach, advocacy, public health contribution
  5. Manager/Leader – Practice management, system improvement, governance involvement

MAJ Recognition Award Criteria

The MAJ Recognition Award typically considers:

  1. Outstanding contribution to medicine
  2. Leadership in organized medicine
  3. Ethical and professional integrity
  4. Service to the Medical Association of Jamaica
  5. Advocacy on healthcare policy or physician welfare
  6. Humanitarian and community contributions

MAJ National Awards Considerations

These may include:

  1. Lifetime Achievement
  2. Distinguished Service
  3. Community Service
  4. Academic Contribution
  5. Young Physician Leadership
  6. Public Health Advocacy
  7. Innovation in Medicine

AGPJ may also consider nominations for:

  1. Caribbean College of Family Physicians
  2. Regional Caribbean Bodies
  3. International Primary Care Recognition
  4. Special Government Honours (as applicable)

Confidentiality & Ethical Use of Information

All submitted information will:

  1. Be held in strict confidence by the AGPJ Secretariat
  2. Be accessible only to authorized members of the AGPJ Nominating Committee
  3. Be used solely for professional recognition and nomination purposes
  4. Not be shared publicly without the member’s consent

Annual updates are encouraged to ensure accuracy.
